Today, we're excited to introduce Cloud Sync — the feature that lets you access your study decks from any device, anywhere.

What's New: Cloud Sync for Your Flashcard App

Starting today with v1.9.0, you can:

Sync flashcards across devices — Create a free account and all your flashcard decks sync to the cloud automatically
Study on any device — Start studying on your laptop, continue on your phone, finish on your tablet
Never lose your progress — Your study decks and progress are safely backed up to the cloud
Keep using local storage — Don't want an account? No problem. You can still use our online flashcard app completely offline just like before

Why Cloud Sync Makes Our Flashcard App Better

SimpleFlashcards started as a browser-based flashcard app. Your study decks were saved to localStorage — fast, private, and zero friction.

But browser storage has limits:

Device-locked — Your flashcard decks only exist on the device you created them on
Browser-specific — Clear your browser data and they're gone
No backup — Lose your device, lose your study materials

We wanted to keep the simplicity you love while solving these problems. So we built cloud sync for our flashcard app as an optional enhancement — not a requirement.

Creating an account to sync your flashcards is quick and simple:

Click Sign Up in the top right
Enter your email and create a password
Verify your email
Your flashcard decks automatically sync to the cloud

Once you're logged in:

New study decks you create are saved to the cloud
You can import your existing localStorage decks to your account
Your study progress syncs across all your devices
You can access your flashcards from anywhere — laptop, phone, or tablet

We take your privacy seriously:

Encrypted connections — All flashcard data transfers use HTTPS encryption
Secure authentication — Powered by Supabase Auth with industry-standard security
